Terms of Service

Operator note (remove before launch): this is a template written to match how FileBench actually works. Have it reviewed by a lawyer in your jurisdiction and replace the bracketed placeholders in section 9.

1. The service

FileBench provides tools for working with files — converting, editing, compressing, scanning and related operations. Most tools run entirely in your browser: the file is processed on your device and never transmitted to us. A small number of tools use our servers; those are labelled on the tool page, and files sent to them are deleted automatically after processing (see the privacy page for the current retention window).

2. Your content and your responsibility

You keep every right to the files you process. We claim none. In return, you are solely responsible for the content you process and for having the rights to do so. This applies with particular force to the media downloader: it works only with publicly accessible material, and downloading something does not grant you rights to it. You agree not to use FileBench to infringe copyright, violate another person's privacy, process unlawful content, or work around any platform's access controls.

3. No accounts, free of charge

FileBench does not offer accounts and does not charge for any tool. The service is funded by advertising, which may be shown alongside the tools. Usage limits (file size, files per batch and operations per day) apply per browser and exist to keep the service available for everyone; they may change without notice.

4. Advertising

Advertisements are provided by third-party networks that operate under their own privacy policies. Our own servers never see the contents of your files, and no file content or file name is ever shared with an advertiser. Using an ad blocker does not affect how the tools work.

5. Acceptable use

Do not attempt to breach, probe or overload the service; do not upload malware (executables are rejected automatically, but trying is still a violation); do not scrape the service, evade rate limits or resell access to it. We may throttle or block traffic that degrades the service for others.

6. Service quality and availability

We work hard to make every tool accurate, and we label conversions that are approximate by nature. The service is nonetheless provided “as is”: we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that any output is fit for a particular purpose. Always keep your originals — FileBench never modifies the file you put in, only produces new ones.

7. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising from the service is limited to £10, since the service is provided free of charge. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

8. Changes and termination

We may update these terms; material changes are announced on this page at least 14 days in advance. You may stop using the service at any time; there is no account to close. We may discontinue the service at any time.
